rugby

johannesburg on hiiglasuur, joudsime eile hilisohtul...lend jai 1 tund hiljaks + tiirutasime johannesburgi kohal oma teine tund tormi tottu, seega 2 tunnine lend pikenes kahe tunni vorra, bon, nuud oleme siin...endiselt ja ikka ja jalle on ohutus siin maal prioriteet...diamond diggersi packpackersi meeskond utles vaid, et arge kesklinna minge...mhh..kull aga joudsime kulastada apartheidi muuseumi, mis annab hea ulevaate verisest ja ulekohutsest ajaloost...rugby on louna-aafriklaste mang, tanase finaalmangu inglismaa vastu nad voitsid ja kogu maa hoiskab nagu siis kui eestlased paar korda suusavoistluste ajal higised poidlad peopesast vabastavad ja Lembitu Kuuse kommentaar: meie Andrus! televiisori kastist valja huppab...nii on...louna-aafrika voitles vapralt:) homme soidame svaasimaale...hasti!

johannesburg is huge, we just arrived late last night after the 2 hours delay cause the storm was so strong and we could not land, instead we just made rounds above this city...well, we are here now...the safety is priority and the staff of Diamond Diggers just simply said: do not go to the citycentre...pffff...still we visited the apartheid museum and got a pretty clear picture of the history...rugby is the game of south-africa, noone who knows this sport (can not really say that estonia is a big rugby country) has a doubt in that...there was a final game today: south africa vs england and SA won without any hesitation and the whole country is celebrateing the way we do in estonia if we have got one of the few medals in the skiing competitions:) bon, i will as well, feel a bit south african myself at the moment:) tomorrow we will head to swaziland...the adventure is just about to start!

hamble kahle...

some photos are incredible, full of the hidden treasures...africa is full of hidden treasures...i realised that i haven't actually written much about the people, country, my work...apologies...guess these 3 months have been so intensive, that the time, to make analytical writings, hasn't been exsistant at all...it's my last day at work today, the AGM meeting and Conference went well, the deputy minister of agriculture and science mentioned Estonia twice in his speech:) mhhh...i did a lot of promotion:) i'll be packing my things tonight and fly to jo'burg tomorrow, from there to swaziland, kruger national park and in the beginning of november is my flight back to Europe...mhhh...it's fast now...
anyway, to make it up to you, i will just add here some things that has amazed me and natascha during our stay, so stay tuned!

SABC
– well, you all know how we became TV stars in South Africa ah? It’s just one of those days you are wandering around Nieuwoudtville, in an aloe -“forest”, basically alone, thinking your thoughts, appreciating the quietness and suddenly the TV is looking for you to make an interview with your for the morning show…waw, I mean, this is one of the reasons we came here, right?

Dobbelarskoop
- Hendrik’s farm is the place that showed us again how we value the simplicity of being. The days we spent there will always stay with us as an example of coping without electricity, tap water, cell-phone connection, European standard-toilet:) and it was marvelous!

The weather
what is it? – We imagined Africa (stereotypes, we know!) to be a warm place…hahh…guess again…

Minibuses
– waaw, R3.50 from Obs to town, quick, crowded, with the messages “love them all but trust no one”…we’ll try that!

Is fair trade really fair? Question
– mhmmm, after exploring the Fair Trade world here and talking to many people, we finally end up with the question to what we don’t know the answer anymore…thanks for that ah?

Magwinya
– uhhhh, fat food is one of the key-words here I suppose, but nothing to do, the magwinyas you get from Philippi or Khayelitsha or Nyanga are so delicious…mmmm...

Abalimi gardens
– we did take part of some other projects while being here and working with mamas in these gardens is a privilege itself…

Noluthando crèche
– another experience, another life…mhmm…children are cute anyway, wherever you go…

Change-the-language nation
– hello, how are you, I’m fine and you and continue in Afrikaans…molo, kunjani…continue in English…it’s lovely and you are lucky to hear these mixed conversation every day…it’s really fantastic and gives a bit of sparkle in your day…

EMG
– a bunch of lovely inspiring people...

oktoobrikuu-tuul

we're back in cape town already for a week now, it all seems familiar but different as well...if it could be a possibility, i would stay here and work for EMG as the team is inspireing and lifts my enthusiasm while moving towards the better world...our house in james str. is exsisting without us now...we left to Rosebank to live together with Isabel and that's more than fine...our project is just about finishing, we'll have the fair trade conference next week and on friday morning we'll make the farewell breakfast for our colleauges...after that we'll fly to jo'burg with natascha and then we'll see how it all goes...still lovin' it!:)

Oompie Hen-land is a farm 62 km from nieuwoudtville...in the middle of this semi-desert...we can stay and live with Hendrik and his family in the huts in the middle of nowhere...no electricity, no tap water, no phone connection...the next days we measure the rooibos tea-fields and enjoy the scenery, the quietness, the simplicity of life...there are many things about this place...and i guess it’s the most-africa i can taste while being in south africa...i get used to this way pretty soon and the thought of going back to the civilization makes me nervous while the returning day is getting closer...it’s been a wonderful weekend: the drives with the bakkie and the tractor, children playing til the darkness hits the place, cooking on fire, „toilets” behind the bushes or whatever you can find...stars which are closer than anywhere else...i’ll keep on being surprised...
